    How to track the PAN-Aadhaar link status

    • Step 1 : Use this link to access the Income Tax e-filing portal: https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/
    • Step 2: Select “Quick Links” from the menu on the left. To link Aadhaar status, click on it.
    • Step 3: Type in both your 12-digit Aadhaar number and 10-digit PAN.
    • Step4: After that, select “View Link Aadhaar Status.”

    If your Aadhaar number has already been linked, it will be displayed. If Aadhaar and you are not linked, you need to take the necessary steps to connect the two.

    You will need to check the status later if your request to link your PAN and Aadhaar is still pending validation with UIDAI.

    If your Aadhaar is linked to another PAN, you might need to get in touch with the Jurisdictional AO in order to delink Aadhaar and PAN.

    What occurs if PAN and Aadhaar are not linked?

    • (i)The individual is not permitted to file a return using an invalid PAN.
    • (ii) Pending returns won’t be handled; (iii) Inoperative PANs won’t be eligible for pending refunds.
    • (iv) Ongoing processes, such those concerning faulty returns, cannot be finished once the PAN is inactive.
    • (v) As the PAN becomes inactive, tax will need to be withheld at a greater rate.
    • (vi)PAN is a vital KYC requirement for all kinds of financial activities, in addition to the aforementioned.

    How to link a penalty with Pan-Aadhaar

    • Step 1 Go to the Home page of the e-Filing site and select Link Aadhaar from the Quick Links section.
    • Step 2: Enter your Aadhaar number and PAN.
    • Step 3: To continue paying using e-Pay Tax, click Continue.
    • Step 4: To receive an OTP, enter your PAN and confirm your PAN and mobile number.
    • Step 5: After confirming your OTP, you’ll be taken to the e-Pay Tax page.
    • Step 6: Select the Income Tax tab and click Proceed.
    • Step 7: Click Continue after choosing AY as 2023–24 and Payment type as Other Receipts (500).
    • Step 8(a): A pre-filled amount applicable to Others will be performed.
    • As an alternative, please take the following actions if your bank account is not available for e-Pay Tax payment:
    • Step: 8b(i) To access the Protean (NSDL) portal, click the link provided below on the e-Pay tax page.
    • Step: 8b(ii): The Protean portal will be the next page you see. Under Challan No./ITNS 280, click Proceed.
    • Step: 8b(iii) Choose Tax Applicable (0021) and Payment Type (500).
    • Step 8b (iv) Enter the remaining required information and continue.

    When paying the late fee for Aadhaar PAN linking, please choose Assessment Year 2023–2024.

    You can use the e-Filing Portal to link your PAN and Aadhaar number after paying the required cost.

    Go to the income tax website and click Link Aadhaar under the Dashboard, Profile Section, Link Aadhaar to PAN option.
